Deep tissue massage and sports massage

Together chiropractic and massage works well and complement one another.. Chiropractic care works to realign the joints of the spine and massage therapy relaxes the muscles around the spine. After a massage, relaxed muscles help the joints to hold the realignment that the chiropractic adjustments are doing, helping the chiropractic care to work quicker and more effectively. Through both treatments we are addressing the joints, the nerves and the muscles giving the body the best opportunity to heal.

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

  • There are many benefits to massage both physiological and psychological.
  • Relaxation – massage helps the muscles relax through heat generated, circulation and stretching. It may also lower high blood pressure.
  • Pain reduction – massage assists in reducing tension and releases the body’s endorphins, influencing our pain reception.
  • Recovery – massage can help improve recovery from trauma and fatigue.
  • Prevention – massage can assist in the prevention of injury in the long term.
  • Flexibility – someone with tight muscles may have better flexibility following treatment.
  • Mental wellbeing – massage induces relaxation which in turn reduces anxiety.
  • Increased energy – massage can leave you feeling invigorated and with more energy.
  • Health – massage helps maintain and improve the health of the soft tissues due to the effects on blood circulation.

Sports massage

Sports massage is designed to help prevent and treat injuries that can occur as a result of exercise or activities of daily living. A range of deep, intense techniques are used to restore mobility to an injured muscle, realigning the muscle fibres and connective tissue, and flushing away the toxins. Stretching, compression and trigger point response techniques may also be used. Sports massage will benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity or someone who has developed postural imbalances through repetitive daily activities by increasing joint mobility, flexibility, promoting recovery and reducing the risk of further injury.

Deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage focusses on releasing myofascial restrictions and works deeper into the muscles. It is a specific massage which uses slow, firm strokes and pressure to work below superficial connective tissue with the intent of breaking up old structural patterns and allowing the free flow of nutrients and oxygen to the body. Deep tissue massage is commonly used to treat chronic aches and pains and tension throughout the body. It is an intense but effective treatment.
